Brain Wave #10: Our future is Wall=E

Brain Wave #10: Our future is Wall=E

If you think about it humans are really good at being selfish.

Oh my fucking God, there you go, I'm getting all philosophical and shit.

Listen, I don't know much about philosophy or human psyche and shit, I know that I'm very underqualified to talk about any of this. But just listen to my take on it if you want to.

So, since the beginning of human civilisation we started making kingdoms and empires and whatnot, you name it: we started to nominate people to be in charge of basically "controlling" their population, of course mostly because we need a way to regulate population and try to model and officialisation of morality, but other than that naturally every man is for himself right? (said man because that's how normally humans are referred to, don't get the wrong ideas smh) So actually how selfish are people willing to get for their own survival? Or even better, are people this selfish just by nature?

Obviously, I absolutely do not have the answers to these questions, rather I was wondering why people in this day and age aren't as selfish anymore. Certainly I wouldn't like to sound like a proper dick about this matter, but you know it's interesting to know why people decide to help each other more frequently, mostly people are driven by the idea that helping the other will aid the whole population going forward, but why is it not the same if each person is for themselves? Recently I encountered this quote by JFK: "Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men!" that's not all of it, but that's the important part: I feel like that nowadays we're facing this problem of trying to make our lives easier instead of tackling the problems that we encounter in our daily lives, and I feel like that's not a great solution because in my opinion all those problems we tried to bypass will come back to us altogether, and we will not be able to face them all at once. Now, that might sound quite vague, but I'm not gonna lie at the same time I can't really think of a great example that at the same time won't offend a lot of people (even though I feel like people shouldn't be offended by, but they will because they're not ready to face their problems) a light one I can think of is technological advancement: everything that we try to make easy and accessible through technology is just slowly leading us to the humans in Wall-E and do not dare telling me that I'm wrong lmao.

Anyway, you wonder how everything would change if we were all a bit more selfish? Not just now, if we've always been. Again, how the fuck do you think I got the answer? But I think that modern society would've been really really different, I'm not saying that any advancement would be reversed or even pushed forward, it would just be different: maybe the internet is not the same place that we know now, maybe we are able to pass around more information in a different way, I mean yeah we're selfish but we still are all individually trying to be working members of society as that still benefits us; a sense of community wouldn't really exist but somehow we're still doing everything for each other, maybe we discovered things that we haven't discovered now and vice-versa, maybe conflicts would be different, actually who knows, maybe not having to helping each other out has improved the ways in which we help ourselves, for the better of the individual self. Listen I have no idea of what I'm talking about, maybe it's all the same and at the end of the day we still are all selfish pricks who will come to the point of only care about ourselves and in the back of our minds think that the world would be a better place if every individual would do their fair share of job to improve their own life only.

Holy shit, this is a confusing ass rant, I don't even know how I thought of all of this, but still following JFK's quote: I really think that we should waste our energies into something that is so unimportant for us or anyone else but would actually hinder us, which again sounds selfish but objectively is the right choice in the long run, be selfish but try to do it for the better of others...so be selfish not to be selfish? Sure, you get it. I wanted to write all this earlier, but I'm glad I forgot, and I got more time to marinate these thoughts and put something somewhat sensical down.

Good bai for now, poposwag.
